Gavin Reed is a detective in the Detroit Police Department. Ambitious and unapologetically arrogant, he has garnered the hatred of his colleagues in record time. Ruthlessly ambitious, Reed will do anything to advance his career, even if it means treading on other peoples’ toes.

His hostility to Lieutenant Anderson is common knowledge.

Olfactory

A little too much cologne: because he likes it, thinks it’s attractive, and to help mask the scent of weed, alcohol, and/or cigarette smoke. The scents he’s masking aren’t particularly strong but can probably be smelled up close.

Specifically, colognes along the lines of Pure Vibe for Men (“aquatic and citrusy top notes, woody middle notes, and sensual base notes of musk, grey amber, and vanilla”) and Axe’s Phoenix deodorant (“crushed mint and rosemary”). Apologies for the specificity; I just smelled them IRL and immediately thought of the rat man.

Demeanor

Looks like an asshole. Even his blank expression looks angry. Eyes thinned, lips pursed/pressed together, brows furrowed. Gavin smiling usually means he’s mocking someone — and having a great time doing so. Genuine smiles are rare and intimate, since he doesn’t want people to know when he likes and enjoys being around them. When smiling genuinely, Gavin is likely to hide it with his hand, try to blank his expression, or play it off as mocking.

Walks with a swagger. The confidence he carries himself with is part genuine and part to hide his deep insecurities.
